Background

In 1997 a management buy-in purchased 130 Gala Bingo Clubs from Bass.

In December 2000, the Gala Group made its first move into the casino sector with the acquisition, of 26 Ladbrokes Casinos from Hilton Group. This established Gala's leading position within the high-volume, low-stake sector of the gaming market.

In October 2005, Gala Group acquired Coral Eurobet in a deal that created Europe's pre-eminent integrated betting and gaming company with strong market positions in licensed betting offices, bingo and casinos, and a high quality multimedia offer.

In January 2006, the Group acquired the County Clubs Bingo chain in Scotland.

In February 2006, the Group went on to acquire the Leo Casino in Liverpool, from Dolby Management Ltd, increasing the number of casinos in the estate to 31.

Gala Coral now owns 171 Clubs, 31 Casino venues and nearly 1,600 licensed betting offices.

Seeking a ‘total solution’ for all utility procurement and cost management issues, Inenco were appointed advisors to Gala in 2004.

The Solution

Inenco recommended a rigorous programme, including energy procurement via Inenco's wholesale basket arrangement. Inenco have also supported Gala by delivering a Carbon Trust funded Carbon Management Programme. Inenco continue to provide regular detailed feedback on achievements and outstanding issues.

Results

Significant savings have been achieved and Gala Coral have been impressed by the thoroughness of Inenco’s approach and the professionalism of the staff. The initial brief was quickly expanded to include other services and the Inenco team provide regular management reports aimed at identifying unusually high or excessive usage.
