Background

NGF EUROPE is at the forefront of the manufacture and marketing of specialised Glass Cord products. Glass Cord is used mainly in the automotive industry for the reinforcement of drive belts. Glass Cord is also used in many other applications including belts for domestic appliances, industrial machinery, office equipment and power tools.

Based in St Helens in the UK, NGF were concerned about increasing energy costs and consumption and appointed Inenco to undertake a number of projects aimed at reducing overheads.

The Solution

Inenco recommended a comprehensive energy management programme including registration for CCL (Climate Change Levy) discount, detailed energy audit and monitoring and targeting. A full review of NGF’s energy procurement was also undertaken.

NGF were unaware of the scope for CCL discount before Inenco approached.

Results

Significant energy savings have been identified, with projects that will generate more than £100,000 of savings each year having already been implemented, including a major heat recovery scheme. A CCL discount of £128,000 per annum has been secured and Inenco are supporting NGF on an ongoing basis in this area. Energy procurement savings of more than £170,000 pa have also been achieved and a significant refund obtained, with these savings being reinvested in energy conservation projects.

The initial brief was expanded to include environmental compliance where Inenco have completed an IPPC permit application and introduced a continuous improvement programme. Inenco have completed a site condition report and obtained the IPPC permit within 1 month and are now advising on the achievement of ISO14001 accreditation.
