Westferry Printers is one of the largest newspaper printers in Europe, producing around 27 million papers each week, including leading UK titles such as The Telegraph, Financial Times, The Guardian and The Express. West Ferry are high users of energy and were affected by the government's Climate Change Levy. Their brief was to reduce costs, improve efficiency whilst minimising the impact of the energy tax.
The Inenco team recommended a 3 year Climate Change programme that would identify opportunities to obtain CCL discounts, allow for the implementation of a robust monitoring and reporting model, and finally to identify and implement energy saving projects throughout the business.
Whilst this required a capital investment, Inenco were able to predict savings that would more than cover this cost.
CCL discount of over £84k pa is being achieved. Energy savings of £180k pa were identified, equating to reduced CO2 emissions of 3,079 tonnes each year.
Not only were Westferry Printers able to recover the capital investment, but additional savings were identified to create a significant overall up-side.
Inenco have since been awarded the contract to procure all utilities for the company.
