Climate Change Levy
The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is a tax on energy use introduced by the government aimed at reducing energy consumption and thus contribute to Britain 's part in reducing Global Warming.
The UK agreed to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 12.5% by the years 2008 - 2012 under it’s commitment to the Kyoto Protocol. One of the measures introduced to achieve this is an energy tax which has added an average of 10 - 20% to business energy costs - some being recycled in the form of discounts, enhanced capital allowances and grant support for best practice programmes.
The tax, which is to be levied on business use of energy, came into effect from April 2001.
