IPPC - Environmental Management Programme
Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) is an EU directive and a combined approach to managing the environmental impacts of industry. Through a single permitting process, operators must apply “Best Available Techniques” and meet other requirements, taking account of local factors.
All IPPC installations are required to apply for a permit to operate, by industry sector, under transitional arrangements which began in the first quarter 2001 and will end at the fourth quarter 2007.
Legal Requirement - IPPC is a legal requirement and therefore mandatory for around 6,000 sites in the UK. Contact us NOW to confirm if your site is caught by IPPC legislation. Remember, ignorance of the law is no defence. the onus is on organisations to comply.
Risk of Closure - failure to comply with IPPC introduces the risk of site closure. Sites caught by the legislation and operating without a permit are breaking the law and the regulatory bodies have the power to act.
Fines/Penalties - the regularity bodies are also empowered to fine organisations who do not comply with IPPC legislation.
Time Consuming - the permitting process is time consuming as is the ongoing commitment to continuous process. Do not under estimate the amount of time that you will need to commit.
Can be Costly - in addition to resource costs, organisations need to budget for application fees and ongoing subsistence fees payable to the regulatory body on an annual basis. The cost of continuous improvement projects must also be factored in to future financial plans.
The Inenco Environmental Management Programme will help you to minimise the impact of IPPC, by providing resource to ensure legal compliance and reducing waste to achieve savings to offset compliance costs. Key elements of the program include:
Permit Application - to establish baseline data for emissions to air, land and water including, where appropriate, noise, odour and vibration reports. To provide a Site Condition report together with a report on energy and water usage. To complete the application and submit to:-
IPPC Part A(1) - Environment Agency
IPPC Part A(2) - Local Authority
Improvement Programme - from the detailed data established in the application, to provide an action plan to reduce emissions and minimise waste to ensure continuous environmental improvement.
Site Protection and Monitoring Programme - to establish an effective monitoring system to ensure compliance with the improvement programme. This would include establishing a Group Environmental Forum and regular review audits to drive the campaign.
